Illumination was achieved using 12 halogen lamps (IR Halogen MR-16, Ushio Inc, Tokyo, Japan) located inside of a domo avoiding directional lighting to the sample.

The camera was placed at a distance of 20 cm from the samples. The images were taken by placing each sample inside an inspection chamber in which contained the camera and the lighting system. The images have a size of 1296 x 966 pixels and a resolution of 0.128 mm/pixel. Hence it is possible to capture two images (visible and near infrared) of exactly the same scene.

The image acquisition system was composed of a digital camera (JAI AD-130GE) which is a prism-based 2-CCD progressive area scan camera capable of simultaneously capturing visible and near-infrared light spectrums through the same optical path using two individual channels. Database of 100 multispectral images of apples Golden (25 apples photographed by four sides in visible and near infrared).
